BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
By Jailynn Simmons
In case you hadn’t noticed, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. People supporting Breast Cancer Research wear pink all month long, however Friday October 24th was reserved for Southwest Middle School students and staff to wear pink in lieu of their normal uniforms.
Starting at the beginning of the month, students and staff members were able to purchase $2 pink bracelets, as a result of buying a bracelet they got to dressed in all pink on October 24th. All proceeds were being donated to the American Cancer Society. The final total was $410.60, however NJHS president Jailynn Simmons and Vice President Stephen Mansker voted for NJHS to donate the remaining $90 so that a check could be written for $500 for the American Cancer Society! We are grateful that we were given the opportunity to participate in such a wonderful cause, and we cannot wait to participate next year.
